A true gem. Old world bakery featuring .... strudel. There are some cool photos where you see table-sized sheets of pastry so thin that you can see through them. All types of strudel. You can get it ready to eat or frozen to bake at home. They supply MANY restaurants who advertise "home baked strudel". This is the real deal. Closed Monday.

A friend of mine found out that I was going to Allen Park to visit a client, and he handed me a piece of paper with the address to the Hungarian Strudel Shop written on it. My appointment was less than a half mile away from here, so I headed to the shop at 1:00. Their hours are limited (8AM - 2PM), however it's certainly well worth the visit. Park right in front, and walk into the quaint, old shop. I purchased 2 different types of strudel, as well as a plate of Walnut "something or other" (I believe it was the first time that I saw that word which described the wrapped walnut goodness, and perhaps it was Hungarian?) that was very delicious, and covered in powdered sugar. I very much enjoyed the consistency of the flaky strudel.

Everything you've read here is true. The quality, the freshness, the authenticity. Except for one comment, about the area, was way off. This neighborhood is safe, solid and stable. It's not Northville, it's not Bloomfield Hills, but Allen Park is not a bad place. If it were at Schaefer and Tireman, I'd say be careful. But this neighborhood is totally safe....

All I can say is best strudel I have ever had!! I could possibly eat it everyday lol.. My favorite is the Apple and Cherry flavors, they are always fresh and warm, nothing is better then that. And the dough is so thin and light and the perfect amount of powdered sugar on top!! If you love great pastries this is the place to go, I promise you won't be disappointed!

Terrific shop that you need to visit. There are very few of these places in Metro Detroit if any. Very old school, very delicious and really good people inside. Take the drive and spend a few bucks - it's what keeps these gems around.

Best Darn Strudel around. This kids is the REAL thing. They have many varieties to choose from and if you order ahead they can make what you don't see on a normal walk in basis. Apricot, Walnut, Cherry, Cheese, and a few others. They even made a pumpkin strudel in October. You can also get your Hungarian pastas here as well. Real Hunky stuff!! Always Fresh

OMFG. I can only mutter this when my mouth is filled with utter delight. I say this a lot when consuming this place's strudel. OMFG. All the strudels in here are awesome, it is just a matter of personal taste. My father is a fan of cherry, my husband the apple or strawberry filled and my mother is a devotee of the apricot. I will take whatever, I really like walnut and anything with cream cheese but I am flexible. The only real downside to this place is that the strudels come in sheets, that either means a lot of overeating or practicing the art of compromise. Compromise is hard when the place is not nearby and the hours are prohibitive. This means we always overbuy. The strudel is reasonable thank goodness but my blood sugar is not. The strudel wins. Make it a point to get over here once. You will return once you try it. If you have not had real deal strudel please try it at least once. You too will find your mouth filled with utter delight.

The owners are some of the best people I have ever met, and the pastry is second to none.

Oh my word. I stopped in this Saturday while my daughter was at Hungarian School. I knew this place has funny hours, so I knew I had to stop in while I was in the general vicinity. I purchased three strudels. They were all yummy, but the cream cheese one was simply amazing. The strudel was plump with sweetened cream cheese and the layers of dough were crispy and interspersed with brown sugar for a yummy textural highlight. The apple and cherry strudels were also yummy and well received by the family. Unfortunately, they were sold out of apricot by late morning, so I missed out, but I might have to call in an order for a cream cheese/apricot one for Easter. If you like strudel, this is definitely a place you should make time for. Also, eat it the day you buy it for maximum crispy flakiness. Plus, who has more self control than that?!?

I read all the positive reviews about this place and I live close by so I went there around 9 this morning with high hopes expecting a warm fresh strudel so I got 2 to share with my roommates I clearly got some old ones that were left over so the cherry ones crust crumbled away to nothing when I cut and the Apple one crust was soggy and not flakey at all its a shame too because the filling was alright I bet these are pretty good if you get them the same day it's made This place was a huge disappointment I should've gone to Krispy Kreme

Lovely bakery place and awesome strudel. I have never tried strudel before, but I believe here has the good strudel. I drove to here three times in 6 days, from Rochester. All I can say is their strudel is worth the drive. I got cherry, Bavarian cream & strawberry, and cheese strudel. So fresh and tasty, my friends and I loved them. I especially like the cherry one. In general, I don't like any kind of cherry flavor food, but the cherry strudel was great, totally changed my concept, I think this is a magic power of baker!

I was looking for a bakery in the area and this one received amazing reviews! It's on a nice street and it's a small place - it didn't disappoint! I got apple and cheese strudels and my entire family agreed it's the BEST strudel we've purchased in a long time! We are Hungarian and we said we couldn't even make it better! Nice employees and clean too! This is one of our favorite desserts and I know my family will be requesting me to go there with every business trip to Detroit!

Ignore its external nondescript appearance or that they only sell strudels by sheet, this is a must-visit if you like strudels. Choice of fresh baked or frozen Choice of fillings....apple, cherry., cheese, etc. Unbelievably reasonable price Friendly service

Very nice staff, great strudel. Tried the apple, cherry, and cream cheese. About $7 each. I will definitely stop in again next time I am home

Yum! Another gem in this godforsaken neighborhood. From the outside it appeared dark, and I wasn't even sure if they were open, but I'm happy they were. The strudel only comes by the sheet, for around $7. So, you can't just buy a little piece. While I was a bit surprised about this, there are plenty of free samples on the counter, which is a classy touch. I got a sheet of the walnut strudel. It ended up being enough of a snack for 6 of us. It was super super super super tasty. The hours are probably prohibitive to most people, but make an effort to get some strudel, it's so very worth it. Ample free street parking. Cash only.

I'm pretty sure my four Hungarian grandparents who were from Del Rey actually had some of this Strudel. Being in my mid 40's and having spent the first 20 years eating tons of Hungarian treats, this place is 100% authentic. My daughter actually requested this strudel versus a birthday cake. They don't charge enough for what they do. Really. They sell the strudel fresh for early birds. They sell it frozen as well. I can't tell the difference. To die for. Honestly.
